The Moss Sloth

Why the Moss Sloth? Because there are so many interesting sights you encounter walking along through the woods and this one was adorable! And symbolic of our emergence out of a long winter’s nap.

In about one week, Sommer and I will embark on our journey to hike the Appalachian Trail. We have had this goal for about a year, but only in the last few weeks has it really set in as to the reality of this quest.

After months of preparation that included researching and testing gear from backpacks, sleeping bags, hammocks vs. tents all the way to personal hygiene, lightweight toothpaste and whether or not to pack deodorant, soap or other various sundries…it all comes down to this…JUST DO IT! Probably the best advice we’ve gotten is “hike your own hike”, “you’ll figure it out as you go” and “you’ll never be alone on the trail” which we are now going to experience.

So after several months of being winter sloths, convincing ourselves that all our stress eating is actually a good thing because we are storing up some fat reserves for the upcoming “lean” days, it’s all about to become too real. But we are “nercited” — both nervous and excited! And who knows what magic will await us along the way.
